Stift Wiener

Wine-description:
ThisGemischter Satz DAC“, mixed set stems from the Nußberg, the most famous vineyard in Vienna. It unifies the typical Viennese grape varieties Grüner Veltliner, Chardonnay and Weissburgunder (Pinot blanc). This wine presents itself youthful and fresh. Because of its multi-layered bouquet of green Apple, flower flavour and notes of stone-fruit together with lively acidity it offers uncomplicated pleasure.

On the variety and origins of this wine:
Vienna is the only capital in the world with its own viticulture within the city. The Klosterneuburg Monastery Wine Estate owns vineyards of legendary reputation in the nearby capital city, such as those on Vienna’s Nußberg.

Stift Klosterneuburg Wine Estate:
Since its foundation in 1114 Klosterneuburg monastery has been growing wine and therefore is the oldest wine estate of Austria. With 108 Hectares of vineyards it is one of the country‘s largest and most renowned estates. The vineyards are situated in selected top locations in Klosterneuburg, Vienna, Gumpoldskirchen and Tattendorf.

Since the year 2009 it is the first carbon neutral wine estate in Europe.

Collection:
The wines bearing the Stift Klosterneuburg crest are the mainstay of our range of wines. Our classic wines are youthful, fruity and characteristic of their varieties. They elegantly reflect the typicity of the relevant winegrowing region. The grapes used to make them come from various vineyards, but always from one winegrowing location. The classic wine collection represents Austrian winemaking tradition in its most enjoyably drinkable form.

Stift Zierfandler Rotgipfler

Wine-description:
The Zierfandler-Rotgipfler grows particularly well in Gumpoldskirchen and is characterized by its outstanding piquancy: opulent and complex in its aroma, this Cuvée reminds one of tropical fruits, presenting itself as juicy, complex and of nearly baroque extravagance on the palate.

On the variety and origins of this wine:
At the heart of the famous white wine producing region of the Thermenregion, south of Vienna, the Klosterneuburg Monastery Wine Estate has been growing the two native varieties 50% Zierfandler (Spätrot "late red") and 50% Rotgipfler for decades. The vineyards in Gumpoldskirchen are home exclusively to these unique »south-of-Vienna« varieties, which do particularly well in the lime-stone rich brown earth soil there.

Baron de funes White

CHARDONNAY and MACEBEO BLEND From Cariñena is one of the oldest protected wine-growing regions in Europe. It has a continental climate with a large difference between day and night-time temperatures which gives the region’s wines a characteristic intensity.

BARON DE FUNES White blend is an estate-bottled wine from the Denominacion de Origen (D.O) CARIÑENA, the home of the Grenache (or Garnacha) grape. D.O. Cariñena has the most “Old Vine” Garnacha in Spain. This white blend is the sister in the team of wine selections.

BARON DE FUNES is a blend of Chardonnay 70% and Macebeo 30%, the Chardonnay lending strength and dryness to the Macebeo varietal.

The BARON DE FUNES wine is made in the strictly delineated D.O. Cariñena in northeast Spain, a controlled appellation with many of the same requirements of the Rioja. D.O. Cariñena consists of over 25,000 acres of vineyards with 1,500 winegrowers since 1932. (Pronounced CAR-EEN-YENA) The vines are planted in poor soil and up to 70 years of age. The altitude above sea level is 1200 feet to 1800 feet depending on the vineyard. The high elevation of the vineyards results in more freshness of the grapes, more acidity. The vines are pruned severely with the overriding principle in mind that quality, not quantity, is preferred.

The wine itself, in the words of the winemaker, Bright yellow straw color with an aromatic, zesty citrus and floral bouquet. Clean and crisp, with a notable freshness on the palate and refreshing apple and pear flavors... This wine is ideal with all sorts of tapas, antipasti, rice dishes and cheeses.

Ideally pairs deliciouly with garlic prawns or calamari.
